Advancements Treating Sleep Apnea

 

Last year, Dental Products Report did a write-up on sleep apnea in which I outlined basic facts about the condition and its role in the developments of dental sleep medicine. Sleep apnea is a high-risk condition that affects approximately 24% of men and 9% of women in the U.S. – comprising of almost 50.4 million people. 75% of the sufferers of this condition go undiagnosed.

The important thing to keep in mind about sleep apnea is that it’s treatable. The main treatments for the condition include:

  1. Custom-made sleep apnea devices such as SomnoDent
  2. Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure (CPAP) Machines, which use a mask that provides air through the night to keep the airway open.
  3. Ear and throat surgery to clear the airway.
